Paris When It Sizzles

If you've never visited Paris before because it's too, let's say Parisian, why not try it in August when it's a haven for tourists. Most locals traditionally evacuate the city for the Cote d'Azur or Atlantic coast to join the masses on the beaches, leaving a more relaxed atmosphere with unique events for visitors to appreciate.

Paris Plage (Paris Beach) originated in 2002 along the banks of the River Seine and runs from July 20th to August 20th from 8am to midnight. By day kick back and relax on the sand or swim in the pools suspended over the river. What a setting! By night live music and dancing under the stars is sure to appeal to the night owls amongst you.

From July 17th to August 22nd, you can celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Cinéma en Plein Air (outdoor cinema) free of charge. Each year, locals and visitors alike congregate to watch films by renowned directors such as Francois Truffaut, Ken Loach, Woody Allen and Sofia Coppola. Experience this unique cultural film-fest at the ultramodern Parc de la Villette.

The Early Bird Catches The Slopes

Eurostar's seasonal service 'Direct Ski' takes you right to the heart of the French Alps with no need to change trains in Paris.

Savvy skiers catch the overnight train both ways to ensure they get an extra 2 days on the piste. Arriving early into the Alps on Saturday, you'll beat air travellers to the slopes and long shop queues if you're hiring equipment when you're there.

The night train will start running on Friday 7th January 2011 through to 1st April 2011 (last outbound journey)

Alternatively, you can travel by day and be whisked through amazing, mountainous scenery, arriving in just 7½ hours. That will give you some time to plan the best skiing routes and get excited about your adventures ahead.

The day train starts operating on Sunday 19th December 2010. It will also operate on Sunday 26th December 2010, and then every Saturday from 1st January 2011 until 9th April 2011 (last outbound journey)

The Eurostar Direct Ski train will be on sale for the 2010/2011 ski season from Tuesday 13th July 2010 for all dates of travel in the season.

France - with a touch of class

If you're planning a trip across the channel this summer, treat yourself to a little bit of luxury - without breaking the bank. If you're travelling between 13th July and 31st August you can enjoy savings of up to 80% on first class rail travel all over France.

Whether you want to work on your tan in the glamorous surroundings of Cannes, or sample some mouth-watering tapas in palm-fringed Perpignan, there's never been a better time to indulge yourself. Fares from Paris start from just £18 one-way to destinations including Reims, Champagne and Chalons en Champagne.

Travel in style at speeds of up to 186 mph on the legendary TGV trains, or take a trip on one of the comfortable, well-equipped regional services. For the ultimate rail experience, wake up in your destination by taking an overnight train. After enjoying a comfortable night's sleep in a flat bed you'll have a whole day's pleasure seeking ahead of you.

To take advantage of these unbeatable fares you'll need to book your trip between 6th July and 27th August 2010. Tickets are non-exchangeable and non-refundable, and you must travel on the train and date shown on the ticket. Tickets must be purchased at least 3 days before departure. Fares are only available for first class single journey tickets on selected routes, and prices may vary depending on availability. Maximum of 6 passengers per booking.

Rail Travel Guide

Looking for advice on how to travel by rail in Europe or are you completely new to the idea? We've compiled an online guide with all the reasons we think rail is simply the best way to travel.

As well as the convenience of city centre to city centre travel and the sheer amount of choice throughout the European network, there are many benefits to travelling by train, such as:

The environment - trains produce around one tenth of the carbon emissions of an aeroplane and use just over one third of the energy.

Time - Fast check-in times and high speed trains that travel up to 200mph.

Experience - Modern high speed trains are comfortable and reliable. Plus you benefit from beautiful scenery to help pass the time.

We also provide advice on how to take your bike across Europe. And information for travellers with special needs, so you know what you can expect on the trains and at the stations.

Eurostar Culture Connect

Eurostar have partnered with some of Europe's finest museums and galleries to provide a great 2 for 1 offer for exhibition entry.

You can benefit from the offer for up to 5 days after your arrival in Paris or Brussels, all you have to do is show your Eurostar ticket. A full list of participating museums and galleries can be found on our website.
