Food Intolerance - This not the same as an allergy but it can still mean giving up the simple pleasure of enjoying special cakes. As a non-medical but accurate guide I detail below the terms and what they mean.
• An allergy means you have an allergic reaction to a certain food that could seriously endanger your health – the most well known being a nut allergy.
• An Intolerance is when certain food groups make you feed unwell but it is not a life threatening condition – the two most common are gluten the protein found in wheat and lactose the sugar found in milk and milk derivatives e.g. butter.
We can all live without nuts in our cakes although I know walnut with coffee buttercream is a favourite, especially with the men but check any recipe and the ingredients will include flour (contains gluten) and butter and often milk (contains lactose).
I have tried many different recipes substituting these ingredients for ones that will be safe and palatable for people with intolerances and am delighted to announce that a Gluten Free or Lacto Free option is now available for all cakes on request. Yes I can even make them GF & LF. The taste is fantastic the texture is a bit less spongy and the toppings are still delicious so what more could you ask as those without your allergy can still share and enjoy your cake. Register your allergy status now at delicakesme19.googlemail.com to ensure all your cakes are produced for your specific needs.
Freezing Cakes
I have been asked by calorie counting customers. “Is it possible to buy a box of cupcakes and keep them in the freezer” The idea being to reduce the temptation to eat them all at once! The simple answer is yes. I would recommend you do eat them within one month (so they are still at their best flavour and texture) and remember to mention you are freezing them when you order as some toppings do not freeze well.
Cocktail Cupcakes
Perfect for a girls night in there is Chockamint Martini, Lickable Limoncello and of course Baileys. 12 Pretty boxed cupcakes with 4 of each flavour, totally irresistible and small enough for you to try more than one! Only £20 per dozen including free local delivery.
Real Flowers
Have you thought of having real flowers to decorate your cake? Many flowers have edible petals but even those that cannot be eaten make a striking statement on your cake. These beautiful orchids were from Blooms of Benton in West Malling and they attracted so much attention at a recent cake sale you really should think about real flowers on your bespoke cake, take a look at Tracy’s website for ideas www.bloomsofbenton.com
